Support the continuation of Single Parent Support Australia and its continuing recognition as the peak body in Australia representing the interests of single mothers and their children to the benefit of all sole parent families.

Endorse a continuing single mother focus in policy development, recognising that the majority of sole resident parents are mothers and work to ensure that policies support the interests of all sole parent families.

Seek to build Grandparents for Single Mothers and their Children organisation to recognise    grandparents� emotional, physical and financial support for their children raising their grandchildren.

Expand and support a Single Mothers� Art Making network encompassing visual, performance and literary arts.

Seek funding to video the next biennial conference. 

Anti-Discrimination

�      Formally oppose any policy which requires compulsory nuclear familism by discriminating against sole parent families.

�      Work to interrupt the stereotyping/stigmatising images of single mothers

�      Support women�s access to assisted fertility services without discrimination on the basis  of sex or marital status.

�      Recognise and publicise the impact of mandatory sentencing on single mothers in the Northern Territory and the impact on dependent children when mothers are imprisoned under these laws.

�      Continue to support the Reconciliation process and to oppose racism.

�      Seek to draw attention to �serial fathers� as a public policy issue to promote responsible fatherhood..

Welfare Reform

�      Formally oppose any policy which requires additional eligibility requirements for PPS recipients, such as compulsory interviews or workforce activity tests

�      Seek to increase GST compensation for lone parents as a collective claim on reduction in payments arising from July 1 changes to abolish Guardian Allowance, and the Sole Parent Tax Rebate and to re-distribute Family Tax Benefit A and B to non-resident parents.

�      Campaign to restore a specially targeted payment for Sole Parents in the social security/tax system that reflects real costs of parenting.

�      Support the return of  an income bank or earnings credit scheme

�      Oppose Family Tax Benefit splitting due to poverty for sole parents and to instead promote an indexed and targeted contact allowance for low income contact parents

�      Publicise problems for PPS or Newstart Allowees  who have 16 - 18 year olds who are breached on Youth Allowance and who rely on them for support.

�      Support Centrelink as the  core government agency to administer income support and oppose privatization of Centrelink services.

�      Campaign to keep privacy of child support, domestic violence and income support clients particularly in Rural Regional and Remote areas.

�      Oppose experimental and damaging restrictions on income support and endorse the income support system as .providing basic income to those in need, rather than private charities.

�      Endorse policy approaches which trust parents to choose whether to work or study or prioritize parenting.

�      Seek to maintain appeal rights for income support claimants.

�      Oppose the link between child contact and FTB and child support payments below 30 percent care threshold.

�      Seek to develop united interests with other income support claimants, volunteers and low-income workers

Labour Market Assistance

�      Seek more accessible affordable family friendly job training and resources and identify helping organisations.

�      Ensure that policymakers recognise the links between poverty and youth suicide and encourage/support parents� efforts to protect children 

�      Seek the provision of alternative care services for 13-16 year olds if PPS recipients face compulsory activity testing. 

�      Promote the need for more assistance with transport for sole parents to get to work child care and schools, particularly in Rural Regional and Remote areas.

�      Promote the need for a support service helping PPS recipients to get a  driver�s licence.

�      Seek to increase the affordability of child care and access to services.

Child Protection, Domestic and Post-separation Violence

�      Campaign to increase legal aid funding.

�      Seek to develop Domestic Violence records archives to be accessible to victims to support evidence for safety over  time 

�      Seek to educate the Judiciary  and legal professions in the dynamics, evidence and consequences  for Domestic Violence and Post Separation Violence effects on children 

�      Support the importance of guidelines, protocol and regulations for Child Contact Centres and the need for a national  Peak body to develop policy to support the safety of children (and mothers) using the services. 

�      Seek more research into children�s needs for safety and choices around contact with a violent parent. 

�      Oppose mandatory sentencing of parents who resist contact where there are child abuse allegations.

Child Support

�      Seek to Increase child support compliance and address income-hiding through discretionary trusts and business losses 

�      Oppose reductions in child support. 

�      Seek to Streamline processes for claims for child support for ex-nuptial children in West Australia. 

�      Oppose the minimum annual child support payment of $260 because it is not affordable for Newstart and Youth Allowees and others with less income. 

�      Seek that payees eligible for $260 minimum annual child support be able to receive it in an annual lump sum at a nominated time with Centrelink to recover the money from the payer. 

Housing

�      Campaign for increased access to low income housing loans for purchasing opportunities.

�      Seek changes to public housing poverty traps.

�      Explore alternative models of housing for low income families.

Education

�      Campaign for the HECS repayment threshold to be increased to  reflect each dependent.

�      Increase the Pensioner Education Supplement

Health Policy

�      Support for a well-funded accessible public health system.

�      Campaign for single parent family private health insurance charges

�      Seek the inclusion of alternative healing chiropractic, homeopathy, psychology to be applied as Medicare claims
